more fiji photos

this is the beach that was about 15 feet from my room on the island of mana. and that's moses. he's a trip. one day i hiked to the lookout point of the island and sat and chanted there for awhile. it was breathtaking, and not raining too hard. and obviously, that is a photo of one of the local children. boy? girl? i'm not sure.

fiji photos

kava ceremony #1. traditional fijian custom. the drink makes your tongue numb and supposedly makes you horney.

this is the police station in the area of nadi (the mainland
in fiji) that i was staying in. there is a cop who comes
and lives in here a few days a week. i never saw him.

angela styled it down, but then i decided
to just shave it. with the help of tbone.

sorry these photos aren't rotated. i'm
just learning how to do this and almost
out of time on this computer.

fiji - cyclonecity

i've been in fiji for 6 nights now, but it feels like so much longer. after my 24 hour journey here, during which i did not remove my hoodie once (due to my inability to accept my newly shaved head), my luggage was lost somewhere in LA, and i had 2 days of wearing the same nasty airplane clothes plus one new fiji bikini, which is not that cute, to say the least. oh, and the driver picking me up from the airport said he thought i was a boy (i had relucantly taken off my hood at that point due to the heat). all that aside, it feels unbelievably good to be here. to not be going to work. to not have to deal with a subway or the overcrowded city of new york. to be meeting people from all over the world who, just like me, don't have a care in the world.

fiji: the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, but in the city they try to rip you off, which is kind of expected. it's a trippy combination of india (b/c everything is SUPER slow, chaotic and not on schedule) and hawaii (b/c it's beautiful, ocean all around and everyone has a flower behind his, or her, ear). this week i've been privelged enough to be here for a cyclone, or a major rainstorm. this turned my trip to the islands into a 5 day journey of reading 2 books and partaking in a rambo marathon. i was staying in a house with a fijian family and 5 europeans. one day we got so bored of staring at the rain, that we made them turn on the generator so we could watch movies. the boys (4 of them) outwon the girls (2 of us) and we watched rambo. i'm not that into rambo.

i tried to leave the island to go to another one, but the generator on that island caught on fire, and there was no running water or electricity, so i opted to stay in my house with my european/fijian family and eat veggie roti for another 2 days. luckily, i'm into veggie roti.

one of the highlights so far is this guy named moses. he is the local fisherman/guru who became my friend. he took me to church and translated the whole thing for me. if the internet here would allow me to download photos, i would post one of him here. he has a huge fro and wears a hawaiin shirt and sunglasses every day. i think he only has one shirt, actually. one day he fell out of his boat. that was funny.

another highlight is the fijian children, who are everywhere and no one watches them. they run around naked, run into the ocean, smile more than any children i've ever seen and are seriously little balls of joy, with a lot of snot coming out of their noses. they could care less that it's raining, or that their faces are covered in snot. they make me smile.

i've also become skilled at a cardgame called shithead.

tomorrow morning i fly to new zealand.

hope this isn't too boring. photos to come soon, hopefully.
